Hemlock, Mich. ― Hemlock Semiconductor Operations (HSC) today announced the winners of the company’s 13th Annual Community Calendar Contest. Local students from 11 schools in the Saginaw, Bay City, Midland and Gratiot school districts illustrated this year’s theme – “A Year of Exploration.” Their winning entries will be featured in HSC’s 2023 Community Calendar and finalists (runners-up) will receive honorable mentions.
All of the student artwork entries will be featured at the Saginaw Art Museum beginning on Friday, November 18th. The museum is currently open Wednesday through Friday from 12-5 pm with $7 admission for adults and $5 for students. Seniors, children and art museum members visit for free.
Student artwork in this year’s contest reflects the spirit of discovery. Each piece embodies a different way that ideas shape our communities. Lilly Palencia from Stone Elementary achieved the great honor of having her artwork on the cover of the 2023 HSC Community Calendar. Carrollton Middle School received the Best of the Best award for their collection of original art that reflects novelty, knowledge and adventure. The school will be awarded a $1,000 prize to benefit and help fund arts and science activities in the future.
“We are so impressed with the student participation and creativity for our 13th Annual Community Calendar Contest,” said Raquel Perez, HSC Diversity & Community Liaison. “HSC strives for innovation and excellence and this year’s artwork certainly reflects those values.”
HSC’s community calendar is distributed each year to neighbors who live near the company and contains important safety information also found on the company’s website. It also gives residents a way to enjoy area students’ artwork year-round.
This year’s winners come from Alma High School, Bay City Academy, Bullock Creek High School, Carrollton Middle School, Freeland Middle and High School, John Glenn High School, Nouvel High School, Saginaw Arts and Sciences Academy, Stone Elementary School and White Pine Middle School. HSC will host a special award ceremony to honor the winners on Thursday, December 1, 2022 from 4-5 p.m. at the Saginaw Art Museum.
All the winners and finalists will receive a special award package that includes an achievement certificate, a Barnes & Noble gift card and the calendar. Winners also will receive a framed photo of their artwork that will be featured in the calendar.
